The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has confirmed a total of 11 residences from Male' region have been placed under monitoring.

The 11 residences were brought under monitoring in relation to the COVID-19 case 21, the first discovery of the virus from Male' City.

Authorities claim case 21 did not have a recent history nor contracted the disease from an infected, proving the viral disease was spreading in Greater Male' Region.

Earlier it was reported the alert level for Greater Male' Region have been elevated to a status 'red' post the presence of multiple COVID-19 cases in the area.

The COVID-19 case 21 is identified as a local female, who is also a health practitioner. It was reported, the infected woman's infant child had tested positive for the viral disease as well.

Moreover, a relative of the infected woman, living in the same residential building later tested positive for COVID-19 as well.

On Wednesday, 15 April 2020, a Maldivian local from a Male' City residence was discovered with the COVID-19 virus.

The local was found positive for the virus after consulting at local flu clinic for the symptoms of cold.

Post discovery of the infected local, the entire residence where the individual live, was brought under lockdown.

Officials of HPA commenced contact tracing and quarantining on other residents of the building to assess for presence of the virus.

It was later reported on Wednesday, that a 'direct contact' of the infected had traveled to Kaafu atoll Kaashidhoo. The island was brought under a lockdown, cordoning off traveling in and out of the island.

By late evening of Wednesday, it was confirmed two more locals from Male' City were discovered with COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the complete lockdown on Greater Male' Region announced on Wednesday afternoon, have been extended by another 24 hours.
