Health Minister Abdullah Ameen says With an economy and daily livelihood heavily dependent on the tourist dollar, Maldives had to make very difficult but decisive interventions in its fight against global pandemic Covid-19.

He made these comments while speaking in an Emergency Virtual Meeting of Steering Ministerial Committee on Health of the Organisation of Islamic cooperation (OIC) organized by the UAE.

Minister said that these were unprecedented and uncertain times, in a world reeling from devastating socio-economic impacts of Covid-19 that Islamic world must not feel devastated.

He said that all must stay focused, stick to our principles, stay strong and combat COVID19 with a renewed sense of brotherhood and resolve.

Minister Ameen gave an overview of the efforts carried out by the government of Maldives to combat the threat of Covid-19.

He said that closing borders was not an easy option and It was our bread and butter. He said it was the country's bread and butter. He added that closing the country's borders was similar to closing of railways in India or closing of factories in china.

Minister Ameed noted that Maldives was confident that with the sense of brotherhood and close cooperation that prevails among the Islamic countries, each would not only work together and help one another, but in time, effectively combat the spread of #COVID19 and contribute to the global efforts.
