Maldives High Commission in Malaysia says more than 800 Maldivians living in the country has registered for the repatriation flight back home.

National Carrier Maldivian had announced via twitter that its repatriation flight to Malaysia was scheduled to fly on the 8th of this month and that tickets can be booked online starting today. It said the flight will depart Malaysia at 6am local time and the departure time was subject to change.

Regarding this, the High Commission in Malaysia said more than 800 Maldivians have now registered for the repatriation flight. It said Maldivian will head booking and ticketing for the flight and have instructed those who registered to coordinate with airline.

Following the spread of Covid-19 in Malaysia, its Government had enacted a Movement Control Order last month and has extended the order until 14th of this month. The country has also closed its airspace to commercial flights, stranding Maldivians living in the country.

National Carrier Maldivian have already chartered a repatriation flight to Sri Lanka and brought home more than 100 Maldivians stranded as a result of Covid-19. The airline will charter a flight to India’s Cochin later today to bring back the Maldivians stuck in the city.
