A cargo vessel en route Maldives, carrying heavy consignment of food, was struck with fire.
Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) confirms the vessel, identified as 'MV VB Progress', caught fire after the blaze ignited in the engine room. The incident took place sometime on the earlier hours of Sunday, 04 April 2020.
Authorities confirm the incident took place around 00:30hrs on Sunday.
Moreover, authorities attest the vessel had a total of 11 onboard it at the time of the incident while there were no injuries or casualties reported.
MNDF confirms, the crew members of the vessel have managed to repair the engine post fire and the vessel was currently en route to Maldives.
The Coast Guard department of MNDF, further confirmed the vessel will berth in Maldives harbor sometime around 15:00hrs on Sunday afternoon.
