Government of Russia has ordered the country’s airliner Aeroflot to take on only Russian passengers on its flights out of Maldives.

The Russian government issued the order following the announcement by the government of Maldives that two Italians who travelled on Aeroflot’s flight out of Maldives yesterday had tested positive for Covid-19.

The two Italians had been under quarantine after two other tourists on the safari they were staying were also tested positive for Covid-19.

Talking to the Press, Aeroflot’s agent here in Maldives confirmed the order by Russia’s government and that Russia has ordered Aeroflot not to allow passengers of other nationalities aboard their flights out of Maldives. The agent said only spouses of Russians, who are of other nationalities, would be allowed to board Aeroflot’s flights.

Maldivian authorities have said the two Italians on their way back to Italy have completed the manadatory 14-day quarantine period and under current standard procedures samples are not taken from asymptotic individuals at the end of their quarantine period. Speaking to media yesterday, spokesman for Covid-19 updates in Maldives Mr. Mabrouk Azeez said the samples from the two Italians were taken for research purposes and that Health Protection Agency were looking to update their standard of practices.

He added that HPA will revise their current practices following the result of these samples.
