Two French travelers holidaying at Summer Island Resort, Maldives have been quaratined for the possible presence of COVID-19.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) of Maldives confirms both travelers showed possible symptoms of presence of the virus and are currently being transported to the designated medical center for further medical assessment.

The agency confirms both the travelers well be sequestered to Farukolhufushi, which is the designated venue for isolated treatment and quarantining.

Based on the counter measures against COVID-19 possibility scenario, Summar Island has been put on lockdown cordoning off transportation to and from the island.

Moreover, HPA confirms regular and timely updates regarding the case and any developments to it will be disclosed to the public.

While Summer Island becomes the latest local tourist slips to be placed on lockdown, Vaavu atoll Thinadhoo was placed under lockdown earlier when an Italian tourist was quarantined for the possible presence of the virus.

In addition to this, Kuredhoo Island Resort situated at Lhaviyani atoll has been temporarily locked down as well.

On Friday evening, during a press conference the Maldives Minister of Tourism confirms Maldives will be temporarily ceasing Italian flights to Maldives; both direct and transit.
