The Maldives Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services has confirmed a case of a mother sexually abusing her minor son has been reported.
The island of incidence, though not specified have been reported to be from the South of Maldives.
The Ministry confirms the case was reported to the authority on Sunday, 02 February 2020.
Following the reporting of the case, the minor has been transferred to a safe environment while two other kids under her care have been shifted to a safe environment.
Meanwhile, Maldives Police Service corroborating the case reported a 14 year old male was sexually victimized by his 38 year old mother.
Maldives Police Service has further claimed they were currently investigating the case.
The report comes at a time when sexual abuse cases have been surfacing at an alarming rate, inciting widespread public outrage.
