Maldives Police Service has arrested at least two individuals suspected for the involvement of a gang led assault on a local.
The local law enforcement authority claims they received report of a gang physically assaulting a local around midnight of 09 January 2020 near the former Foreign Ministry premises.
Authorites arrested a 22 year old local male the day after for the alleged crime, and was presented to Maldives Criminal Court for remand hearing.
The court had issued a remand of 05 days for the suspect as per local police.
Another local, a 24 year old male was arrested on 12 January 2020 whom authorities strongly suspect of involvement in the offense.
Maldives Police confirm the second suspect was issued a 12 day remand from Criminal Court.
Furthermore, police confirms the victim was aged 19 and the law enforcement authority was investigating the matter.
Meanwhile, a video footage that went viral on 09 January shows approximately 14 individuals physically assaulting and manhandling a local individual.
