Police have confirmed they are investigating a case of an underage pregnancy in a southern island.
They said that they received the report of a 17-year-old girl who was pregnant on an island in the south of the country. Police said that her pregnancy was reported after a doctor's appointment and that the case was reported on the 13th of this month.
The incident was brought to the attention of the police by the child's health centre. Police did not disclose the child's town or name as cases involving children are confidential, but assured that they were investigating the case.
It has been reported that the girl, currently studying in grade 11, is 8 months pregnant.
