Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Dr. Abdullah Muththalib assures that the government's development projects and services are not based on citizens' votes.
He said this while answering questions from Parliamentarians at the legislative house today
When asked about the developmental projects in the islands where the ruling government lost council seats to the opposition in the recently held Local Council Election, the Minister said the government aims to provide services equally to all citizens regardless of the outcome of the elections.
The minister also assured that the works would continue without interruption in the islands where the opposition councilors are present.
Minister Muththalib denied reports that the government had suspended the land reclamation project in Thaa Atoll Gaadhifushi after the opposition claimed the Council seats in the election, stating that the project continues uninterrupted.
The minister said the government wanted to implement the projects but faced difficulties due to a lack of cooperation from some councils. He said the Male' city council is acting in a way that obstructs major development projects in the city.
He urged the councils to fulfill their legal responsibilities, putting aside political considerations. The minister said the government cannot bring about the development desired by the people unless it provides the necessary opportunities.
