Former Chairperson of MDP, Fayyaz Ismail, has expressed concerns about the delay in announcing the final results of the ballot boxes for the Male' constituencies in the recently held local council election.

Expressing his concern, Fayyaz posted on X and called on the Election Commission to announce the final results of the polls as soon as possible without allowing anyone to influence the election results.

The council seats in the city are politically competitive, he said, adding that the political parties are extremely concerned that the final results will not be confirmed for many days after the polls.

When asked about the concerns, an official from the Elections Commission said to 'The Press' that the deadline for announcing the final results of the election is the 17th of April and that the Commission was announcing the final results as they verified them.

The Commission assured that the results of all the constituencies would be announced before the deadline.

After the provisional results of the election are announced, the Commission is legally required to re-check the ballot papers and result sheets before the final results are announced.
