Members of the main opposition party, Maldives Democratic Party, MDP, are protesting at the Anti-Corruption Commission, ACC, alleging that the Commission has failed to investigate the election-related corruption from the ruling government.
Protesters at the ACC called for the resignation of ACC President Adam Shamil and demanded that the Commission investigate the allegations of corruption against the government.
MDP said that the government is distributing jobs to influence the elections scheduled for next Saturday.
The party also said that it is unacceptable that the ACC has remained silent and taken no action to stop the misuse of state property and money.
Neither the government nor the ACC has responded to these allegations made by the opposition.
The Country is preparing for a historic day of elections, as Saturday will see voters cast ballots in three different elections. The elections include the Local Council Election, the Women's Development Committee election, as well as the Public Referendum to decide whether or not to hold the Presidential Election and Parliamentary Election concurrently.
