President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that a bill to facilitate the implementation of capital punishment will be submitted to the People's Majlis during its current session.

He made these remarks during a press briefing held at the President's Office today.

The President stated that, as the Head of State of an entirely Muslim nation, it is not within his discretion to withhold such sentences from individuals who have exhausted every stage of the judicial process. He further noted the Government's position that its enforcement must be streamlined and guaranteed through a strong legal framework.

He confirmed that once the bill is passed by the People's Majlis and ratified, the Administration will proceed with implementing capital punishment for those whose cases have reached finality and meet all legal requirements for enforcement.

The President stated that he considers these measures essential for the Maldives, as an Islamic nation, to uphold justice and ensure social equity.
