Police say they are investigating the torture and killing of a cat in Haa Alifu Hoarafushi.
They said that the incident was reported on the 12th of this month, around 7:00 pm.
Police said that they have questioned three individuals about the incident, but have not arrested any suspects in the case.
A video is circulating on social media showing some individuals torturing a cat by hanging it and dragging its dead body on the streets before dumping the dead cat into the sea.
The Instagram user who shared the video said that the person who sent him the video said that it was from Hoarafushi. The user also said that the cat was pregnant when it was tortured.
Photos of the culprits have also emerged online, and online users are expressing their outrage at them for the torture.
Torture and killing of animals have grown common in the Maldives in the last few years and authorities are clamping down hard on such criminals.
