A fire at a migrant accommodation block in Alifu Dhaalu Dhigurah has killed 5 people.
Police said that the incident was reported around 2 earlier this morning and that 8 people were initially rushed to the island's health center.
They said that 5 out of the 8 injured were pronounced dead at the Health Center. Police further said that two others who sustained serious burns have been transferred to Male' for further treatment.
Police also said that the fire had been extinguished while the victims were being treated at the Health Center.
They did not give any information about the nationality of the deceased or how many foreigners were in the accommodation block when the fire ignited.
Police did say that they have sent a special investigation team to Dhigurah, including a medical doctor. Police added that they were further investigating the tragedy.
