Veteran Director Ahmed Nimal has passed away months after suffering a devastating stroke.
The 62-year-old Actor-turned director passed away earlier today while under treatment at Dharumavantha Hospital.
Nimal suffered a stroke on the 31st of December last year and was rushed to the state-run IGMH. His condition had been serious since as he was being treated on the ventilator.
Local media reports said that his family was unable to take him abroad as his condition did not improve.
Nimal made his debut as an actor back in 1984 in Easa Shareef's 'Nufooz' (Influence).
His film 'Sitee' (Letter), which he wrote, directed, and acted in 199,3 remains as one of the most popular movies of all time in the Maldives.
Other noteworthy contributions include 'Zalzalaa', 'Yoosuf', and 'Niuma'.
Nimal received the national recognition award for his work in the film industry back in 1991.
