The Human Rights Commission of the Maldives, HRCM, says it has decided to launch an investigation into the work environment safety practices at the Waste Management Corporation, WAMCO.
In a social media post, HRCM said that the Commission has noticed multiple issues with the safety conditions at the Corporation. It also said that the Commission decided at its meeting last night to conduct an immediate investigation into the safety conditions and employees' security at WAMCO.
This comes after another work site accident left a local WAMCO staff member on the ventilator. Reportedly, the staff fell into a container from a ramp, which resulted in serious injuries. Reports said that the man fell from a height of 12 or 13 ft.
Recently, an expatriate died at a WAMCO site in Thilafushi after he was struck by the bucket of the excavator. The driver of the excavator later buried the body of the victim and was later arrested for his negligence and crimes.
