Police say a teenager has died after an accident near the Sinamale' bridge last night.
They said that the accident was reported around 1 in the morning and that the accident happened when a motorcycle traveling at highspeed spun out of control and crashed onto the pavement at the traffic light near the bridge from the Male' side.
Police said a 19-year-old was riding the motorcycle when it crashed and that he was carrying a 16-year-old boy as a passenger. Police said that both were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
They confirmed that the 16-year-old died while under treatment for his wounds.
Police also said that the rider did not have a valid driver's licence. Police are further investigating the case.
Traffic accidents are growing common in the Greater Male' area, especially Male'.
Police said yesterday that between the 15th of February to 21st of February, 41 road accidents were reported across Malé, the bridge, and the highway.
Police said that Malé saw the highest number of cases, with 36 incidents recorded. They said that out of the total cases reported, 38 resulted in minor injuries, while 3 incidents involved serious injuries.
They stated that the largest number of accidents on a single day was 11 cases on 21 February, followed by 8 cases on 15 February.
