The ruling party, PNC's PG Leader, Ibrahim Falah, says support for the supposed main opposition party, MDP, has depleted, and called on the party's leaders to form a new party.
He made these comments while speaking at the ceremony held to open the campaign office of the PNC Candidates competing for the Thinadhoo City Council seats in Male'.
Falah said that out of the 1,352 available seats in the upcoming location Council Election, MDP is not competing for 450 seats.
He said that the reason they are not competing in these constituencies is that they could not find candidates to compete for them, and looking at the percentage of seats, MDP has already been defeated in the elections.
Falah said that this shows how much the support for MDP has depleted across the country.
He stated that there should be responsible opposition political parties that do good work. Falah said that the MDP, which is an opposition party, has lost the support of the people since 2008 because of the damage it has done to Sri Lanka's social fabric, economy, society, and state.
Falah also said that MDP cannot be revived and that it would be better for the party's leader to form a new political party.
