Police have confirmed that a fire broke out on a fishing vessel off the Kurumba Island resort in Kaafu Atoll.
They said that the fire was reported around 2:54 in the afternoon.
Police said that 15 people were aboard the vessel when the fire broke out, and authorities were now on the scene. Police also said work is underway to bring those injured to Male' and that vessels from Kurumba Island resort were assisting in the operation.
Police did not say how many were injured in the fire.
Maldives National Defence Force, MNDF, had said just now that the fire has been brought under contro,l but stopped short of saying whether it had been extinguished.
Photos from MNDF showed that most of the vessel had been engulfed in the blaze.
