President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has departed for the Federal Republic of Germany on an official visit. The President is undertaking the visit from 9-13 February 2026 on the invitation of His Excellency Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The President's Office said that during the visit, President Muizzu will engage in high-level official talks with President Steinmeier and senior officials of the government of Germany.

A business forum bringing together delegates from both countries will also be held.

The President is scheduled to visit Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and the German Council on Foreign Relations, where he will speak about the Maldives’ climate change adaptation experience and the Maldives’ viewpoint on the role of the ocean in foreign policy, respectively.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of formal diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Germany. Diplomatic relations were established on 5 July 1966.
