The President's Office states that Special Envoy to the President and former President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan has tendered his resignation today.

It also stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu received Dr. Waheed’s letter of resignation earlier this morning.

Waheed's resignation comes after reports emerged that he had been corresponding with the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who died in prison while under the custody of the US federal government back in 2019.

Epstein surrounded himself with wealthy and influential people throughout his life from a variety of disciplines and ideologies.

It has been reported that he had compiled thousands of files documenting his communications and transactions with such influential people and often incriminating evidence against these elities including videos and photographs of them being involved in illicit sexual activity with minors.

Last Friday, the US Justice Department released millions of files from the cache of files the former financier had stored, and it has been reported that the former President Waheed has been mentioned in the files and that he had been communicating with the deceased sex trafficker on several ocassions.
