It has been reported that the suspect arrested for the death of a Bangladeshi national in Thilafushi has been accused of manslaughter.

A Bangladeshi man named Ameen Mia, 24, was found dead in Thilafushi after he was reported missing last week. Police found his body under a pile of rubbish on the island on the 28th of last month.

Police said that the incident that killed the 24-year-old happened on the 26th of January, after the bucket of an excavator struck him while he was working near a pile of garbage.

They said that Ameen Mia died after he was buried with a pile of garbage when he fell after being struck by the excavator.

Police further stated that CCTV footage of the incident shows that, although the excavator struck Ameen, the operator continued working on piling garbage. Police arrested the Sri Lankan man who was operating the excavator at the time of the incident.

The 32-year-old man was produced at the Court for his remand hearing yesterday, and the court order said that the suspect has been accused of manslaughter.

The court documents said that sufficient evidence has been presented to the Court to make the accusations. It also said that these include the incident report as well as screenshots of the CCTV footage.

The Court also heard that the Investigating Officer believed that the suspect was not giving enough attention when he was operating such a heavy vehicle like an excavator.
