Police have arrested a 21-year-old local man in Male' for possession of large amounts of drugs and cash.
They said that the man was arrested under a sting carried out under the anti-narcotics operation named 'Operation Ali Magu'.
Police said that the operation was carried out on the 31st of last month and that it was based on information retrieved by the Gang Crime Suppression unit of the Police.
Police identified the suspect as 21-year-old Ali Mufaaviz from Laamu Atoll Hithadhoo. They said that he was arrested on suspicion of possession, use, and trafficking in drugs.
Police stated that after he was arrested, his apartment was searched and 614 grams of suspected drugs and more than MVR 125,000 were recovered from him.
They further said that the Criminal Court has given him 5 days in remand custody and that Police were further investigating this case.
