Authorities have apprehended an excavator operator in connection with the death of a migrant worker in the industrial island of Thilafushi.

Police said that they had arrested a 32-year-old Sri Lankan man in connection with the death.

This comes after a Bangladeshi named Ameen Mia, 24, was found dead in Thilafushi after he was reported missing last week. Police found his body under a pile of rubbish on the island on the 28th of last month.

Police said that the incident that killed the 24-year-old happened on the 26th of January, after he was struck by the bucket of an excavator while he was working near a pile of garbage.

They said that Ameen Mia died after he was buried with a pile of garbage when he fell after being struck by the excavator.

Police further stated that CCTV footage of the incident shows that, though the excavator struck Ameen, the operator continued his work of piling garbage.

They added that they would be giving more information about the case as they continue to get more information about the incident.
