The Elections Commission has opened the application process for candidates in the upcoming Local Council Elections.

The Commission stated that potential candidates can submit their applications until the first of next month and must use the Commission's portal to submit their candidacy application forms.

It said that applications can be submitted from Sunday to Thursday between 08:30 and 03:30 and on Fridays between 3:30 in the evening and 6:00 in the evening.

The Commission added that the notification of whether the application would be accepted or denied would come through the portal.

According to the list released by the Commission, a total of 294,937 people will vote in this year's council elections. That includes 150,410 males and 144,527 females.

A total of 621 polling stations will be set up for the local council elections and women's development committee elections, while 321 polling stations will be set up in the Atolls.

The Commission is ready to set up 240 polling stations in Male', Hulhumale', and Villimale for the election.

The election will be held in a total of 225 constituencies, including local council members and women’s development committee members.

It will be held in April of this year.
