An MP has submitted the case of the 'missing' USD 240,000 paid to a Dubai-based company by Maldive Gas as an advance payment for a gas delivery to the Parliament's State Owned Enterprises Committee.

The MP for Maavashu Constituency, Ahmed Shakir, submitted the motion to the Committee.

In a letter addressed to the Speaker of Parliament, he stated that the matter was a serious allegation against a government-owned company. He requested that the SOE committee of Parliament investigate the matter.

The issue resurfaced after the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Ahmed Nazim, highlighted the information while speaking at the Parliament's Public Accounts Committee.

The Deputy Speaker said that the Public Accounts Committee, as well as the Anti-Corruption Commission, were further investigating the case. But these entities did not reveal any information about the case.

At the time, Maldive Gas said it was preparing to take legal action against the company for not receiving the advance.
