President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has declared Thursday, 5 February 2026, a Government holiday.

The announcement was made through Directive No. 3/2026, issued by the President’s Office today.

The President made this declaration as the day on which the Presidential Address is delivered to the People’s Majlis, pursuant to Article 84 of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives, is traditionally observed as a Government holiday.

The Presidential Address conveys the current state of the country and also outlines the Government's plans for the upcoming year.

It also highlights key pledges made by the President and what he would strive to achieve during the calendar year.

The Parliament is currently in recess. However, it held two extraordinary sessions recently.

The session of the Parliament is divided into three parts a year. The first session will be held from February 1 to May. The second term is to be held from June 1 to August 15, and the third from October 1 to November.
