The Maldives Meteorological Services, the Met Office, has warned of hazy conditions in the Central and North regions of the country.
It said that air quality in the Central and Northern regions has worsened due to haze, leading to reduced horizontal visibility.
The Met Office said that hazy conditions are expected to persist over the next few days.
Meanwhile, the Health Protection Agency HPA reported today that air quality in northern and Central regions has risen to dangerous levels.
It said that Air Quality Index readings in Shaviyani Atoll Funadhoo were at 111, which mirrored the readings in Male'.
AQI levels between 101 and 150 are considered unhealthy for sensitive groups.
However, AQI levels in Villimale' have reached 167, which is considered unhealthy for all groups.
AIQ readings are at unhealthy levels in Dhaalu Atoll as well as Laamu Atoll.
HPA added that the hazy conditions will persit in the regions for the next five days.
