Police have arrested several foreigners for making, using, and trafficking liquor in Male'.

Police said they were arrested in a special operation conducted on Monday and bottles of suspected liquor and equipment used to produce liquor were recovered from an apartment in the city.

The foreigners apprehended include four men from Nepal and another man from Bangladesh.

Police said that all five suspects have been handed over to Immigration authorities and will be deported from the Maldives.

Police added that they were continuing to investigate the case.

They had arrested another foreigner yesterday for trafficking liquor in Hulhumale'. Police said that 31-year-old Jovail Hussain was arrested yesterday in Hulhumale' Phase 1 after he was found to be suspicious by a police patrol near the area.

Police searched the van he was driving and found 134 bottles of liquor. Police said that the suspect has been given a remand custody of five days and that they were further investigating the case.
