Police say the body found floating in the waters off Raa Atoll Kinalhos, was decomposed beyond recognition.
The body was found yesterday around 4:30 p.m.
They stated that the body was decomposed so badly that they were unable to determine the gender of the deceased.
Police also said that they are taking the forensic samples required for the investigation
Police are also working to complete the necessary procedures as part of the investigation.
Floating dead bodies are discovered in Maldivian waters from time to time. Last month Police found the dead body of a Chinese man in the waters near Gulhifalhu in Kaafu Atoll.
The man fell into the water while attempting to get on a launch from a barge docked in waters off Hulhumale'. Attempts to save him were futile, and his body was later discovered miles from where he fell.
