President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that fishing is the most honoured and distinctively Maldivian profession, deeply rooted in the nation's diligence, skill, and culture.

He conveyed this message through his official social media platforms on the occasion of National Fishermen's Day.

The President highlighted that Maldivians have been inextricably linked with fishing since the earliest settlement of the islands, noting that marine resources have remained the primary source of sustenance from ancient times to the present day.

Referencing the Government's efforts to develop and modernise the fisheries sector, the President stated that one of the Administration's primary objectives is to further expand the industry, diversify production, and increase the income of fishing families, as well as maximise the economic benefits derived from the fisheries value chain and facilitate greater opportunities for fishermen.
