Police have apprehended several leaders of a major drug network operating in Addu City.
Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihussan revealed on X that the suspects were arrested last night. He labeled the network as the biggest drug network currently operating in the City.
The Minister noted that the suspects were arrested as part of 'Operation Ali Magu', which the police kicked off to neutralize drug networks smuggling and peddling drugs in different parts of the country.
Ihusan said that the Police have been investigating the network's leaders for drug trafficking and money laundering since March this year.
He also said that the Police have discovered that the network has been involved in drug trafficking since 2017. He stated that over the past five years, more than MVR 19 million has been circulated among the accounts of four senior members of the network.
Minister Ihusan warned that the anti-drug operation being carried out by the direct orders of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu will specially target drug traffickers in the country.
