The Maldives Football Association FAM has decided to give financial assistance of MVR 100,000 to every team in its women's league, which kicked off yesterday.

The financial assistance, funded by FIFA, would be given to 6 teams. FIFA has promised an economic package of MVR 600,000 to develop women's football in the Maldives further, and FAM has been promised more help from the governing body after its President, Gianni Infantino, visited the country last month.

The FAM women's league, which began yesterday after a 10-year gap, will run till the 23rd of this month. FAM had said that the matches of the league tournament would be played in the Galolhu National Stadium, and two halves of 35 minutes would be played in each match.

FAM also promised that each team would get a 2-day break between league matches and that the tournament court size would be a full football pitch.

The teams in the league include TC Sports Club, New Radient Sports Club, Bis buru Sports Club, Maziya Sports and Recreation Club, Odi Sports Club, and Victory Sports Club.
