An amendment had been submitted to the parliament seeking a 20-year jail sentence for any driver who causes death because of dangerous driving.

The bill proposes to revise the entire "Land Transport Act."

The bill makes dangerous or reckless driving an offense, and the punishment for causing death is 20 years in prison.

The bill states that if a person is seriously injured as a result of the offence, the offender will be sentenced to between 10 and 15 years in prison, depending on the seriousness of the offence.

It further notes that if a person is injured as a result of dangerous or reckless driving (even if it is not a serious injury), the person will be sentenced to between 5 and 10 years in prison, depending on the gravity of the act.

The current Land Transport Act only allows a person to be fined for dangerous driving; if a person is killed or seriously injured as a result of dangerous driving, they cannot be prosecuted under the Act
