The Government has sent the name of former Sports Minister Ahmed Mahloof to the Parliament for the Japanese Ambassadorship post.
The post of Japanese Ambassador remains vacant following the death of former Ambassador Hassan Sobir back in July.
The Parliament has now forwarded the motion to appoint Mahloof as the Japanese Ambassador to the Parliament's Foreign Service Committee.
Mahloof finished his five-year tenure as the Sports Minister in the former government of the Maldives Development Party MDP. Before that, he was a member of the parliament for the Galolhu South Constituency.
Recently, Mahloof signed as a member of the current ruling party PNC.
