Police have launched an investigation into the case where 31 seized cigarette cartons went missing from Villimale' Police station.
Police said today that they had initially launched an investigation into 6 missing cartons of cigarettes from the same station. They noted that these cartons were from the 32 cigarettes seized from a foreigner last May.
Police said that 6 of the 32 cartons of cigarettes were found missing when they were handed over to customs on the 12th of this month.
They stated that during the investigation into the missing 6 cartons, the police discovered that an additional 25 cartons of cigarettes were also missing from the custody of Villimale Police Station.
Police said that these were seized from two foreigners last December.
The Professional Standards Command is investigating the administrative matter. Today, the criminal investigation into the case is being conducted as a separate case.
