A ship carrying goods to Gaafu Dhaalu Faresmaathoda has run aground on a reef in Vaavu Atoll and capsized.

Police said that the ship named 'Fahi Roalhi' ran aground on a reef near Vaavu Fulidhoo on Friday. Police also said that 12 individuals were traveling aboard the ship when it ran aground on the reef.

They include 6 passengers, the captain, as well as the owner of the ship, and 4 foreigners.

Police said the ship's hull broke, and most of the ship sank.

They added that they were further investigating the incident.
