Maldives Ports Limited MPL says it has started an internal investigation into the incident where a landing craft overturned just outside Male' while trying to unload cranes from a cargo ship.
The incident killed two people, including a local man and a foreigner. Five others were wounded in the incident.
In a statement, MPL said that an internal investigation has been launched into the incident. The company said it would release more information based on the investigation.
Videos of the incident before and during the incident have been circulating on social media.
Many are expressing concern online, questioning why the workers were trying to unload the cranes onto a landing craft when the cargo ship was near the dock.
