The Police have forwarded the case of the policeman who was caught smuggling drugs into Hithadhoo custodial jail to the Prosecutor General's Officers.

The policeman has been identified as 25-year-old Mohamed Nauf Naseem from Hithadhoo.

He was stopped and searched after officers at the jail received intel that there would be an attempt to smuggle contraband into the jail on the 4th of September.

Nauf was arrested after officers found a substance believed to be narcotics on his person.

He was remanded in custody for 15 days. He was released on bail after his remand expired on September 20. Police said that he has been suspended from his police job without pay in connection with the case.

Police said the case was sent to the prosecutor's office on the 13th of last month.
