First Lady Saajidhaa Mohamed says today, the Maldives takes a historic step towards a tobacco-free Maldives as the Generational ban on tobacco comes into effect.
Starting today, the sale, purchase, and use of tobacco products are prohibited for individuals born on or after January 1, 2007. Additionally, individuals under the age of 21 are barred from participating in any tobacco-related sales or commercial activities, further shielding young people from tobacco exposure.
The First Lady said that as a healthcare advocate, she applauds the Government’s leadership in launching the Generational Ban on Tobacco, a powerful investment in the well-being of generations to come.
She said that this was a bold, evidence-based step to break the cycle of addiction and prevent diseases.
