Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan says the Police have arrested four suspects involved in the robbery that transpired at Velaana International Airport VIA earlier today.

Masked assailants, wielding knives, confronted two staff members from the Bank of Maldives BML, who were carrying in a money box into the Airport. They threatened the two staff with the knives before snatching the money box and escaping from the airport via a motorboat.

Minister Ihusan revealed on X just now that Police have made remarkable progress in the investigation. He said that Police have successfully recovered the speedboat used in the crime and apprehended four suspects.

The Minister commended the officers for their swift and effective efforts in advancing the investigation and securing the suspects.

Media reports also say that the assailants were wielding knives and threatened the bank staff before snatching the money box from them and running away.

It has been reported that the suitcase contained money that would be used at the BML dollar counter for locals who departure abroad today. However, it is not clear how much have been stolen in the robbery.

Police are investigating the incident.
