Police have apprehended a local teacher who allegedly molested a 13-year-old girl at her own house.

They said that a report was filed on the 21st of this month that alleged that a 13-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a man in a trusted position in Hulhumale'.

Police stated that the suspect was a 46-year-old local man and are further investigating the case.

Sources have said that the teacher is from a Male school and that the suspect visited the victim's house to provide tuition services.

In cases related to the abuse and alleged abuse of children, the Police do not reveal the identity of the victims to protect them from the stigma related to such cases.

For the past few years, Police have been prioritizing the crimes committed against minors and children, with sexual crimes given special importance.

Police have also been working to protect the identity of victims of such heinous crimes and have withheld information about the victim’s island or atoll, or where the crimes happened in multiple cases.

Investigations and court proceedings against alleged child abusers have been fast-tracked on several occasions, with police adamant on revealing the identities of the suspects.
