State Trading Organization STO has begun selling the 23 food items that were recently added to the basic food items list.

STO said that it had launched 23 items added to the list of basic food items besides flour, sugar, and salt as part of the government's policy to make basic food items available to the general public at affordable prices.

STO noted that these items included fruits and vegetables as well as some spices and coconut.

The items include;

Fruits

  • Banana: MVR 30 per kg
  • Apple: Green apple for MVR 4, Red Apple for MVR 5
  • Orange: MVR 3
  • Lemon: MVR 20 per kg
  • Passion fruit: MVR 80 per kg
  • Mango: MVR 90 per kg
  • Papaya: MVR 25 per kg
  • Watermelon: MVR 12 per kg
  • Chilli: MVR 120 per kg
  • Grapes: Green Grapes MVR 133 per kg, Red grapes MVR 50 per kg

Vegetables

  • Onion: MVR 10 per kg
  • Ginger: MVR 15 per kg
  • Carrot: MVR 15 per kg
  • Brinjal: MVR 28 per kg
  • Yams: MVR 45 per kg
  • Potato: MVR 15 per kg
  • Cabbage: MVR 15 per kg
  • Pumpkin: MVR 12 per kg
  • Spinach: MVR 30 per kg
  • Garlic: MVR 40 per kg

STO is selling yellow lentil seeds for MVR 22 per kg, with 1 egg for MVR 2 and a coconut for MVR 7. STO said that all these items are now available at all the STO wholesale centers as well as STO People's Choice.

The company said the prices of the 23 items have been fixed taking into account market prices. It said the latest prices will be available through the Agumagu portal of the Ministry of Economic Affairs. STO is discussing further measures to facilitate the availability of these items in the market.
