Maldives Customs Services says that it would take strict action against any officers who were found to be involved in the cigarette container heist that has grabbed the attention of the whole country.
A cigarette Container carrying over 13.6 million cigarettes was stolen from the MPL port in Hulhumale after Customs seized it. Police have arrested four individuals, including a senior customs officer, concerning the case.
In a statement, Customs said that it would take strict action under the laws and regulations if the police investigation confirmed the involvement of customs officers in the heist.
Customs also said that it would give the police its full cooperation with the investigation into the missing container.
It added that it was holding discussions with other relevant authorities to prevent such crimes from happening in the future.
