Police have said they will not allow any disturbance or damage to property during the MDP's planned rally on Friday.
In a statement issued today, police said they had received information that the MDP was planning to conduct the march against the route permitted by the police and that criminal groups were planning to take to the streets to disrupt the city and damage properties.
They said that such acts are considered to be detrimental to the security and public interest of the city. The police service said it would not allow anyone to cause a disturbance in the city.
Police have called on the people not to encourage any act that violates the Freedom of Peaceful Assembly Act and may endanger peace and order.
Police also urged the people to cooperate with the authorities to ensure the safety of the public and to respect the rights of all citizens and not to undermine the public interest of the society.
