Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed says the recent corruption uncovered at the Utility company Fenaka is just a small amount of corruption carried out by the former government of the MDP.

Speaking on PSM's Raaje Miadhu program, Minister Saeed said the top tier of the former government was aware of the corruption and theft within the government.

The minister said that while they (MDP) are trying to get power during elections, they talk about being against corruption, but when they get power, they do not look into corruption cases.

Noting that corruption at Fenaka first emerged during the tenure of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Economic Minister Saeed said that instead of investigating the corruption, the MDP government encouraged it.

The Minister also said that when the current administration came into power, the former government had run state-owned companies like Fenaka to near bankruptcy and printed MVR 8 billion notes, but only used a small amount of it.

The minister said the MDP government had used government resources to win elections by starting many things at cheap prices. He said they also committed major corruption acts in the hope of staying in power.

In addition, Saeed said there are many such acts committed throughout the system and each of them should be investigated.
