Police have arrested three individuals who have been accused of using and trafficking drugs in Male'.
Police said they were arrested in an anti-narcotics operation carried out last Wednesday and that all three were arrested under a court order.
They identified the suspects as 34-year-old Mohamed Aaish Ahmed, 25-year-old Aminath Illiyeen Ahmed, and 34-year-old Mariyam Inaayath Ali. Inaayath is a TV presenter who has appeared on prominent shows like 'Heyanbo' aired by Public Service Media TVM's variety channel TVM.
Police said during the operation, they searched two houses in Male' connected to the suspects and recovered a hand-rolled cigarette and a rubber pack that contained suspected drugs.
The provisional weight of the items was 1246 grams.
The three suspects were taken for their remand hearing in Male' in which the court gave the male suspect a remand custody of 10 days and the two female suspects 7 days.
Court documents show that both the female suspects' urine tested positive for drugs. Police also noted that they found a hand-rolled cigarette that contained nicotine and drugs at the TV Presenter's house.
Police are further investigating the case.
