State Electric Company Ltd Stelco says the power outage in Hulhumale' yesterday was caused by people trying to damage a substation.
Parts of Hulhumale's Phase 2 experienced power outages in the early hours of today, including Vinares towers, Hiya flats, and MPL flats.
In a press release, Stelco said the power outage occurred when a network feeder went off during an attempt to damage a substation in Hulhumale's Phase 2.
Stelco said that while the power outage was reported around 03:30 am, they were able to restore power around 4:56 am.
Stelco said it has reported the damage to the substation to the relevant authorities and is working to bring such issues to the attention of the relevant authorities to prevent such incidents from happening again.
Stelco has also urged the public to share information with the relevant authorities to prevent such acts from happening again.
