Supporters of the main opposition party, MDP, have staged a protest outside the Housing Ministry today, demanding a meeting with Housing and Construction Minister Dr. Abdullah Muthalib.
Those who gathered outside 'Dharubaaruge', which is temporarily housing the Ministry, voiced concerns over the 'Gedhoruveriya' and 'Binveriya' housing schemes initiated by the former government.
Speaking at the protest, MP for Kendhoo Constituency Mauroof Zakir said that opposition supporters had no choice but to gather outside the Ministry, as the opposition has been unable to summon the Minister to the parliament for questioning or to hold private meetings with him to share the people's concerns.
Mauroof insisted that the MDP PG group has separately asked for a meeting with the Minister and that three months have gone by without an answer.
The MDP's complaint does not only include housing issues, he said. There are also concerns about the stagnation of some projects in rural areas and the delay in starting others.
